Waiting on Wednesday (18): Dreams of Significant Girls by Cristina Garcia

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to showcase unreleased novels that we're waiting for anxiously. This week I'm picking:
--
Dreams of Significant Girls by Cristina Garcia
Pub. Date: July 12, 2011
Summary: Brought together each summer at a boarding school in Switzerland, three girls learn a lot more than just French and European culture. Shirin, an Iranian princess; Ingrid, a German-Canadian eccentric; and Vivien, a Cuban-Jewish New Yorker culinary phenom, are thrown into each other's lives when they become roommates.
--
This is a story of 3 paths slowly beginning to cross and merge as they spend the year apart, but the summers together. Through navigating the social-cultural shoals of the school, developing their adolescence, and learning the confusing and conflicting legacies of their families' past, Shirin, Ingrid, and Vivien form an unbreakable bond.
--
Why I Chose Dreams of Significant Girls: I really love the summary, and the cover is pretty too. Plus, I love summer reads, and this one reminds me a tiny bit of one my favorite series, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Let me know what y'all's picks are this week. Happy reading!

Why I chose The Pledge: Granted, I still haven't read The Body Finder, Kim's other novel. But the cover reveal for her upcoming novel was today, and oh my God, it's gorgeous! I just love it! And the small blurb makes me all the more intrigued. So what did y'all pick this week?

Waiting on Wednesday (16): Want to Go Private by Sarah Derer Littman

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to showcase unreleased novels that we're waiting for anxiously. This week I'm picking:
--
Want to Go Private by Sarah Derer Littman
Pub. Date: August 2011
Summary: When Abby meets Luke online, she can’t believe her luck. He’s nice. He’s funny. He listens to her and he thinks she’s pretty. He even gets jealous of other guys, which is adorable. Without Luke, Abby’s not sure how she’d make it through her first year of high school. Everyone, including her mom and her best friend, Faith, tells Abby that if she just made more of an effort, she’d be having fun instead of dreading each and every day as if it’s a prison sentence. But there’s nothing fun about being the lowest link in the social food chain. Abby knows she’s not supposed to chat with random guys online. But Luke isn’t random, and he isn’t a stranger. Best of all, he really loves her. So what if she never goes out with her friends anymore and her grades are slipping? All she needs is Luke. Luke is her secret, and she’s his — it’s perfect that way. So when Luke suggests that they meet each other in person, Abby agrees. And then she’s gone. Missing. Without a trace. And everyone is left to put together the pieces. If they don’t, they’ll never see Abby again.
--
Why I chose Want to Go Private: This one sounds gripping and scary. I haven't read a novel with a plot quite like this one, so I'm definitely intrigued. Even the title sounds eerie and fitting. Make sure to leave links, and happy reading!

Waiting on Wednesday (14): Like Mandarin by Kirsten Hubbard

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to showcase unreleased novels that we're waiting for anxiously. This week I've chosen:
--
Like Mandarin by Kirsten Hubbard
Pub. Date: March 8, 2011
Summary: It's hard finding beauty in the badlands of Washokey, Wyoming, but 14-year-old Grace Carpenter knows it's not her mother's pageant obsessions, or the cowboy dances adored by her small-town classmates. True beauty is wild-girl Mandarin Ramey: 17, shameless and utterly carefree. Grace would give anything to be like Mandarin. When they're united for a project, they form an unlikely, explosive friendship, packed with nights spent skinny-dipping in the canal, liberating the town's animal-head trophies, and searching for someplace magic. Grace plays along when Mandarin suggests they run away together. Blame it on the crazy-making wildwinds plaguing their Badlands town. Because all too soon, Grace discovers Mandarin's unique beauty hides a girl who's troubled, broken, and even dangerous. And no matter how hard Grace fights to keep the magic, no friendship can withstand betrayal.
--
Why I chose Like Mandarin: The cover caught my eye in its simplicity, and the summary sounded really good. Just another book to add to my ever-growing to-read stack.

Waiting on Wednesday (13): Plague by Michael Grant

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to showcase unreleased novels that we're waiting for anxiously. This week I've chosen:
--
Plague by Michael Grant
Series: Gone, #4
Pub. Date: April 5, 2011
Summary: This is a blood-pumping, white-knuckle sci-fi thriller of epic proportions. The FAYZ goes from bad to worse...The darkness has been foiled once again and the resurrected Drake has been contained. But the streets of Perdido Beach are far from safe, with a growing army of mutants fighting against the humans for power in the town. In a small room of a house near the edge of town, Little Pete lies ill on a bed. In his fevered dreams, he continues his battle with the hidden evil that seeks to use his power to bring about anarchy and destruction.
--
Why I chose Plague: I'm a huge fan of the Gone series and this one looks just as chilling and great as the first three books. I've been anxious to get this one since Lies came out too.
--
Make sure to let me know what you're waiting on in the comments. Happy reading!

Waiting on Wednesday (12): Sixteenth Summer by Michelle Dalton

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to showcase unreleased novels that we're waiting for anxiously. This week I've chosen:
--
Sixteenth Summer by Michelle Dalton
Pub. Date: May 3, 2011
Summary: Anna is dreading another tourist-filled summer on Dune Island that follows the same routine: beach, ice cream, friends, repeat. That is, until she locks eyes with Will, the gorgeous and sweet guy visiting from New York. Soon, her summer is filled with flirtatious fun as Anna falls head over heels in love.
--
But with every perfect afternoon, sweet kiss, and walk on the beach, Anna can’t ignore that the days are quickly growing shorter, and Will has to leave at the end of August. Anna’s never felt anything like this before, but when forever isn’t even a possibility, one summer doesn’t feel worth the promise of her heart breaking….
--
Why I chose Sixteenth Summer: I love the cover (it's so bright and cute) and the premise sounds like a perfect light, summer read.  Plus, it's Dalton's YA debut and therefore it'll count for the Debut Author Challenge.
--
Hope y'alls are having a great week so far. Don't forget to leave in the comments links your Waiting on Wednesday picks!

Waiting on Wednesday (11): Falling for Hamlet by Michelle Ray

Oy vei, have I been hyper today. I got the day off from school and work because Lizzy [my parakeet (officially named Miss Elizabeth Bennet)] laid an egg during the middle of the night and, of course, my mom freaked and thought the egg was going to randomly explode and a little baby parakeet would fly out and attack her (or something irrational like that). So anyways, I've been home all day, trying to calm down my mom and trying to keep from running around in circles from boredom. Hence, the hyperness. Anyways, Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to showcase unreleased novels that we're waiting for anxiously. This week I've chosen:
Falling for Hamlet by Michelle Ray
Pub. Date: July 5, 2011
Summary: Falling for Hamlet retells the familiar Shakespearean tragedy from the point of view of a feisty, empowered Ophelia, who is neither suicidal nor anybody’s pushover. In a glittering world of celebrities, paparazzi, and reality TV, Ophelia navigates the minefield of teen life in a royal family gone crazy.
--
Why I chose this one: The title caught my attention and then the cover made me interested and then the description made me add yet another book to my ever-growing stack of to-read novels. I love Shakespeare, and Hamlet is one of my favorite plays ever. So I'm excited about reading an up-to-date version of the story. And hello, the protagonist is described as feisty. So yeah. I'm all over this book like that chick is all over that dude.

Waiting on Wednesday (10): The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting. This week I'm picking

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
Pub. Date: September 27, 2011
Summary: Mara Dyer believes life can’t get any stranger than waking up in a
hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember
that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed. There is.
She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been
through, she can fall in love. She’s wrong.

I saw this cover a couple of days ago on Goodreads and I just adored it! And the premise is great; simple, intriguing, and mysterious. What are you waiting on this week?

Waiting on Wednesday (9): Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting. This week I'm picking
--
Beauty Queens by Libba Bray                        Pub. Date: May 24, 2011                              Summary: From bestselling, Printz Award-winning author Libba Bray, the story of a plane of beauty pageant contestants that crashes on a desert island.
Teen beauty queens. A "Lost"-like island. Mysteries and dangers. No access to emall. And the spirit of fierce, feral competition that lives underground in girls, a savage brutality that can only be revealed by a journey into the heart of non-exfoliated darkness. Oh, the horror, the horror! Only funnier. With evening gowns. And a body count.

Libba Bray is one of my favorite authors, and I'd pretty much read anything she wrote, but Beauty Queens looks hilarious, even from just looking at the cover. What are y'alls waiting on?

Waiting on Wednesday (7): The Dark and Hollow Places by Carrie Ryan

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting. This week I'm picking
--
The Dark and Hollow Places by Carrie Ryan
Series: The Forest of Hands and Teeth #3
Pub. Date: March 22, 2011
Summary: There are many things that Annah would like to forget: the look on her sister’s face when she and Elias left her behind in the Forest of Hands and Teeth, her first glimpse of the horde as they found their way to the Dark City, the sear of the barbed wire that would scar her for life. But most of all, Annah would like to forget the morning Elias left her for the Recruiters.
--
Annah’s world stopped that day and she’s been waiting for him to come home ever since. Without him, her life doesn’t feel much different from that of the dead that roam the wasted city around her. Then she meets Catcher and everything feels alive again.
--
Except, Catcher has his own secrets -- dark, terrifying truths that link him to a past Annah’s longed to forget, and to a future too deadly to consider. And now it’s up to Annah -- can she continue to live in a world drenched in the blood of the living? Or is death the only escape from the Return’s destruction?
--
So, for those of you who don't know, I'm a huge fan of The Forest of Hands and Teeth series and when I found out there was going to be another installment I shrieked loud enough that my dog howled. And when I figured out Catcher, my favorite character, is going to be in it I nearly swooned. Squeal! And finally, there's the cover; seriously, that cover is just plain beautiful. Carrie Ryan is an amazing author and I can't wait for The Dark and Hollow Places.

Be sure to leave a comment with your WoWs. Happy reading!

Tonight he didn't stop after the first slap.

--
This evocative slideshow of flashbacks reveals a heartbreaking story of love gone terribly wrong.

I read the title and wanted to no more. This book looks chilling and fantastic. ANd the cover is gorgeous. I love how the heart is shaped so raggedly. So many great releases in 2011!

Waiting on Wednesday (5): Chain Reaction by Simone Elkeles

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting. This week I'm picking
Chain Reaction by Simone Elkeles
Pub. Date: May 24, 2011

Luis Fuentes is a good boy who doesn't live with the angst that his big brothers, Alex and Carlos, have always lived with. Luis is smart, funny, and has big dreams of becoming an astronaut. But when he falls for the wrong girl, Luis enters a dark world he's never known, and just when he thinks he's got life all figured out, learns some disturbing news about his family that destroys his positive outlook on life. Will that Fuentes bad boy streak come out with a vengeance and lure Luis to live on the edge like his new girlfriend and his own father?
Continuing all the steamy romance of the first two books, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Simone Elkeles gives fans one more satisfying taste of the irresistible Fuentes boys.
--
I just got finished with Perfect Chemistry and just bought Rules of Attraction and so far I'm loving this series so when I found out the youngest brother was going to have a book for himself (and the fact that it's a bad-ass chick in this one) I got excited. And that cover, can you say steamy?

Waiting on Wednesday (4): Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting. This meme is always time-consuming since there are practically hundreds to choose from. My week's pick is:

Wolfsbane (Nightshade #2) by Andrea Cremer
Pub. Date: July 12th 2011
(Description not available)
--
Since I just finished Nightshade and boy, does that book end in a cliffhanger. I can't believe I have to wait until next July to read the next one. But anyways, I absolutely adored Nightshade and the cover for Wolfsbane looks gorgeous, so this is definitely one of my most anticipated reads of 2011.

Waiting on Wednesday (3): Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting. This one is always one of the hardest. There's just so many books I'm dying to get. This week's pick is:
Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky
Pub. Date: May 23, 2011
Summary: In the year 2060, everything is done digitally. Kids no longer go to schools. They stay home and take classes online. Adults work from home, too. Even dating is no longer done in person. Why walk on a real beach when you can stroll down a digitally remastered one instead? No bad weather, no seagulls, nothing real to ruin a perfectly fine time.
Though she's grown up in this digital world, something about being cut off from everyone doesn't sit right with seventeen-year-old Madeline. Her favorite activity--the only one she does off line--is soccer. She likes the physicality of it and the comradery with the other girls.
Then she meets Justin. He, too, prefers life off line. It's all he talks about. He even takes her out to a real coffee shop and an underground club. Maybe it's his attentiveness, or the physical closeness of actually being with someone, or just that he's very good looking, Madie is definitely drawn to him. But there's also something very aloof about him, like perhaps he's hiding something.
When Madie uncovers the truth, she's faced with the question: What's more important, fighting for what you believe in or love?

Waiting on Wednesday (2): Fall for Anything by Courtney Summers

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting! Grr, there are just too many to pick just one. My pick this week is:
Fall for Anything by Courney Summers
Pub. Date: Dec. 21, 2010
When Eddie Reeves’s father commits suicide her life is consumed by the nagging question of why? Why when he was a legendary photographer and a brilliant teacher? Why when he seemed to find inspiration in everything he saw? And, most important, why when he had a daughter who loved him more than anyone else in the world? When she meets Culler Evans, a former student of her father’s and a photographer himself, an instant and dangerous attraction begins. Cullen seems to know more about her father than she does and could possibly hold the key to the mystery surrounding his death. But Eddie’s vulnerability has weakened her and Culler Evans is getting too close. Her need for the truth keeps her hanging on...but are some questions better left unanswered?
--
I loved Cracked Up to Be, and I love photography, so this book looks amazing. Plus, I love the cover. And when there aren't any reviews to judge a book by, there's always the cover! A mysterious suicide + photography + a mysterious boy = a great novel.

Trapped by Michael Northrop
