Waiting on Wednesday (19): As I Wake by Elizabeth Scott

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to showcase unreleased novels that we're waiting for anxiously. This week I'm picking:
--
As I Wake by Elizabeth Scott
Pub. Date: September 15, 2011
Summary: What if you woke up and didn't know where you were?
What if you didn't know who you were?
And what if, when your memories started to come back--what if they didn't match the you that you're supposed to be?
--
Ava is welcomed home from the hospital by a doting mother, lively friends, and a crush finally beginning to show interest. There's only one problem: Ava can't remember any of them--and can't shake the eerie feeling that she's not who they say she is.
--
Ava struggles to break through her amnesiac haze as she goes through the motions of high-school life, but the memories that surface take place in a very different world, where Ava and familiar-faced friends are under constant scrutiny and no one can be trusted. Ava doesn't know what to make of these visions, or of the boy who is at the center of them all, until he reappears in her life and offers answers . . . but only in exchange for her trust.
--
Why I chose As I Wake: Well, not only is Elizabeth Scott one of my favorite authors ever, but the cover is gorgeous! Okay, and the summary sounds really, really good. I love books that involve memory loss. I'm waiting anxiously for September to roll around. Happy reading, y'all!

Teaser Tuesday (16): Stay by Deb Caletti

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Just grab the book you're currently reading, flip open to a random page, find a random excerpt, and voila, you're participating in it. My quote this week is from Stay by Deb Caletti:
--

"I just saw it as praise, falling down now like glittering snowflakes. But it was something else. A drop of poison on that gathering snow. That moment in the fairy tale when we know what just happened but the princess doesn't."

This one is amazing so far, and I really love the writing. I had problems picking just one teaser. Happy reading, y'all, and don't forget to leave links to your teasers.

Teaser Tuesday (15): The Dust of 100 Dogs by A.S. King

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Just grab the book you're currently reading, flip open to a random page, find a random excerpt, and voila, you're participating in it. My quote this week is from The Dust of 100 Dogs by A.S. King:
--

"Just as Padraig had teased, she was too young and stupid to know how to survive on her own, and she cried about being hungry and dumb. She tried to think of what Padraig would say--and then realized that every one of her happy thoughts had just gone up in flames with everything else she ever knew."

Happy reading, y'alls!

Blog Hop (15) & Follow Friday (15)

The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Crazy for Books and every week we get a question. This week's is:
"Since today is April Fool's Day in the USA, what is the best prank you have ever played on someone OR that someone has played on you?"
My answer: This one's tough. I'm not the prankster type, but I've had some epic pranks pulled on me over the years by my older (and younger) brothers. I'd probably have to go with the time my oldest brother forged my report card at the end of 8th grade and put that I'd gotten all D's. I freaked out so bad that he actually told me before I had it figured out. It seemed horrible then, but really it was hilarious, especially since he's signed his own name at the bottom. I was just too freaked out to notice the first time.
--
Follow My Book Blog Friday is hosted by Parajukee's View and it also has a weekly question. This week's:
"What is the book that you really don't want to admit to loving?"
My answer: Probably the Vampire Academy series. Not because it's a bad series at all, just because the name sounds so lame. Vampires have a bad rep, and Vampire Academy sounds like the epitome of those bad reputations.

Make sure to leave links in the comments so I can check out y'alls blogs. Happy reading.

Top Ten Authors that Deserve More Recognition

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is top ten authors that deserve more recognition.
--
1. Lucy Christopher - Granted, having only written one book, she's not a widely known author for a reason. But Stolen, her debut, is amazing, and one of my all-time favorite novels.
--
2. Markus Zusak - Though definitely not under-the-radar after The Book Thief, I think Zusak should get even more recognition. He's an amazing author (at least in my opinion) and all of his books are great, no matter what topics they're about.
--
3. Carrie Ryan - I love, love, love The Forest of Hands and Teeth series, and she's really amazing as an author. I know I'm already sounding like a broken record, but her descriptions are just so beautiful and detailed and her novels have a really huge emotional impact (at least on me).
--
4. Michael Grant - His Gone series is really original and the mystery is really great. I'm surprised by how little of the other bloggers/readers I know have heard of him or read his books.
--
5. Ellen Hopkins - I know everyone knows Ellen Hopkins, but I think she deserves even more credit. Her novels are all amazing, and they are so honest and real. Despite her already huge amount of fans, I completely think she should have more.
--
6. Courtney Summers - Even thought I haven't read all of her novels yet, Summers writes with a simplistic and devastatingly real voice that really grabs you and deserves much more attention than her books receive now.
--
7. Rachel Vincent - I adore the Shifters series and the Soul Screamers series by her, and again, I'm shocked by how few people have heard of her.
--
8. Andrew Smith - Again, he's only written one book, but it was one of my favorites from last year. Not only is his writing style suspenseful and thought-provoking, but the story line was (while not for the faint of heart) er, amazing.
--
9. John Green - Okay, this one is a stretch. He's already one of the most well-known YA authors around. But still. His books are heartfelt, beautifully-written, and poignant in a way that no other YA author really is (in my opinion).
--
10. Elizabeth Chandler - Her books are sometimes considered predictable and not worth the time, but I couldn't agree less. I think more younger teens should read her novels, because not only are they clean, they are easy to read and get into. (And yeah, they're great for older teens looking for a lighter read, too.)
--
So there you guys have it. I really loved the theme for this week, since I'm always wanting to share authors I think don't get enough recognition. Happy reading!

In My Mailbox (15)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren. Since I significantly improved on my reading stack (meaning I'm down to around 60, when I was at way over 100 before), I'm going to temporarily suspend my book-buying ban. Especially since this month is my birthday month (yay!) and I'll be getting money that will undoubtedly be used for books. So, anyways, onto the books I got.
