Top Ten Authors that Deserve More Recognition

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is top ten authors that deserve more recognition.
--
1. Lucy Christopher - Granted, having only written one book, she's not a widely known author for a reason. But Stolen, her debut, is amazing, and one of my all-time favorite novels.
--
2. Markus Zusak - Though definitely not under-the-radar after The Book Thief, I think Zusak should get even more recognition. He's an amazing author (at least in my opinion) and all of his books are great, no matter what topics they're about.
--
3. Carrie Ryan - I love, love, love The Forest of Hands and Teeth series, and she's really amazing as an author. I know I'm already sounding like a broken record, but her descriptions are just so beautiful and detailed and her novels have a really huge emotional impact (at least on me).
--
4. Michael Grant - His Gone series is really original and the mystery is really great. I'm surprised by how little of the other bloggers/readers I know have heard of him or read his books.
--
5. Ellen Hopkins - I know everyone knows Ellen Hopkins, but I think she deserves even more credit. Her novels are all amazing, and they are so honest and real. Despite her already huge amount of fans, I completely think she should have more.
--
6. Courtney Summers - Even thought I haven't read all of her novels yet, Summers writes with a simplistic and devastatingly real voice that really grabs you and deserves much more attention than her books receive now.
--
7. Rachel Vincent - I adore the Shifters series and the Soul Screamers series by her, and again, I'm shocked by how few people have heard of her.
--
8. Andrew Smith - Again, he's only written one book, but it was one of my favorites from last year. Not only is his writing style suspenseful and thought-provoking, but the story line was (while not for the faint of heart) er, amazing.
--
9. John Green - Okay, this one is a stretch. He's already one of the most well-known YA authors around. But still. His books are heartfelt, beautifully-written, and poignant in a way that no other YA author really is (in my opinion).
--
10. Elizabeth Chandler - Her books are sometimes considered predictable and not worth the time, but I couldn't agree less. I think more younger teens should read her novels, because not only are they clean, they are easy to read and get into. (And yeah, they're great for older teens looking for a lighter read, too.)
--
So there you guys have it. I really loved the theme for this week, since I'm always wanting to share authors I think don't get enough recognition. Happy reading!

Top Ten (Er, Eleven) Bookish Pet Peeves

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is top ten bookish pet peeves.
--
1. Repetitiveness - I get so annoyed when the author uses the same exact wording to describe something/someone, or when the author uses the same expression a lot, aside from for dramatic effect. There are so many thousands of words, use them!
--
2. Unrealistic reactions. Definitely number one for me. If I started hearing random voices in my head, I would not think I was psychic. I would think I'd gone crazy, honestly. Or if I met a guy who was totally weird and sparkled in the sun and said he was a vampire, I would not think he was a vampire. I would run screaming and have him committed for life to the insane asylum. So, please, give us cold hard facts to prove your paranormal characters are in fact paranormal, and not just lunatics.
--
3. Unrealistic endings - A lot of YA novels tend to have these, whether they be happy ones or depressing ones. I feel so unsatisfied when the characters don't get their happily-ever-afters, or end up way happier than they should've.
--
4. Books-to-movies - Some of them are good, I know. In fact, some of my favorite movies are books turned into movies. But I would much prefer it if books remained books and screenplay writers got their stuff from other places.
--
5. Pushover POV characters - Most of my favorite characters are strong, and stand up for themselves. If you're going to have a weak POV character, let that be for a reason, or make them grow stronger. I don't want to read a story about a girl who forgives everyone and always takes the blame, or a guy for that matter. Girls with low egos too - i just want to grab them and scream at them.
--
6. How long it takes for paperbacks to come out in series. Seriously, I have so many book series that are half paperback and half hardback. It annoys the heck out of me, and I sometimes have to wait a whole year or more to get the next one so it won't look so uneven on my shelf.
--
7. Poor writing/grammatical mistakes - I'm just guessing here, but it seems like most of the people who read books want to read, and like to read, and are going to notice mistakes. If your writing is poor, get someone's help; if you're not great at grammar, get someone to edit your writing. I know we all make mistakes and all, but as a reader, I want good writing, not someone's diary.
--
8. Folding the pages' corners to keep your place. Please. Just. Don't.
--
9. Authors who show their own personal opinions on political/religious/anything views. These tend to be books I absolutely hate. I'm not reading your book to find out whether you support abortion or not, unless that's obviously what the book is about. Make your fictional characters original, not a copy of yourself.
--
10. Faces on covers. I really, really don't like this. The point of reading a book and not watch a movie is to use your imagination, right? Well, if the protagonist's face is right there on display, how am I supposed to not picture them looking like that?
--
11. Books without any meaning - Okay, okay, I know I'm supposed to do ten, but I need to share this one. I love a superficial romance just as much as anyone else, you know? But sometimes it seems like authors think that just because they have a girl who needs prom shoes pronto, they have a great book. But in reality, as much as I'd like to hear about whether or not her prom is a disaster, when stacked up to books that have such deep meaning and beautiful language, prom girl is going to be left hanging.

That's it this week, y'all. I'll have a review up tomorrow, I swear. Happy reading!

Top Ten Books I Just HAD to Buy... But Are Still Sitting On My Bookshelf

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is top ten books I just HAD to buy... but are still sitting on my bookshelf.
--
1. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater - I have both of the Wolves of Mercy Falls series, and have had them since they came out. I was so excited when I got them too...
--
2. Take Me There by Carolee Dean - I've heard great things and I spent my last few cents buying this one.
--
3. Fallen by Lauren Kate - Again, I've heard great things. It has such a pretty cover too!
--
4. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte - I need to get around to this one. It's a classic, and I've been telling myself, next week since I first got it three years ago.
--
5. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larson - When I bought this one I seriously couldn't wait to start it. It sounded so mysterious and awesome. But I keep putting it off because of how big it is, plus it's not YA.
--
6. The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson - Heard great things, looked forward to it, same ol', same ol'.
--
7. Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver - Seriously. My favorite book ever is Delirium by Lauren Oliver. And I still haven't read this one!
--
8. Wake by Lisa McMann - I have the whole series on my shelf, and I've had Wake for at least a couple years, but I never seem to have time to start another series.
--
9. Dark Visions by L.J. Smith - I've had this one for a few years, and I think I was excited about it back then. Now I'm just intimidated by its hugeness.
--
10. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa - I know, these books are supposed to be amazing. And there's a freaking love triangle! How could I possibly resist? But alas, my laziness is even cutting into my reading habits nowadays.

Top Ten Book to Movie Adaptions

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is best book to movie adaptions (which usually, in my opinion, are hard to find). Anyways..
--
1. The Notebook - My absolute favorite book to movie adaption. Ryan and Rachel have such chemistry,, they bring life to the story.
--
2. A Walk to Remember - Another Sparks novel. Again, the actors made the story (that fell a little flat in the book) so much more real that I liked it better than the book. I know. *gasp*
--
3. I Am Number Four - I honestly am not sure how much this has to do with Alex Prettypants being in the movie. But wow! I loved the movie. And while I think I liked the book a little better, it was still a kick-ass movie version.
--
4. Harry Potter - Basically, all of 'em. Is that cheating? Oh well. I love the movies, and I love the books, and yeah, the books are a million times better, but the movies are amazing too.
--
5. Brokeback Mountain - The movie is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the book was really different from it. Not to say the book (er, novella?) was bad, but Jake and Heath were amazingly amazing in the movie. I cry just thinking about it. Seriously, I'm that much of a wuss.
--
6. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005) - I know there are a lot of Narnia fans who hated the latest adaption of the book. But I loved it! It captured Narnia and all its magic perfectly in my opinion.
--
7. Jaws - I've never read the book, honestly. (Am I cheating again?) But nothing can compare to the cheesy, yet creepy, movie that haunted me after seeing it at the age of 5 for 2 years. I still get freaked out by seaweed at the beach.
--
8. Flowers in the Attic - I love the book series a lot more than the movie, but it's still classic. I remember secretly watching this one as a kid and giggling over the grown-up parts. I probably still would giggle...
--
9. The Lord of the Rings - Nothing compared to the books, but still good.
--
10. Twilight - Just kidding. Honestly, I liked the books, but the movie just sucked. Badly. (Sorry Twilight fans.) But I'm all out of books into movies. So there you have it, y'all.

My Top Ten Favorite Love Stories

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. This week's post is about love stories (fitting considering it's Valentine's Day). Once again, this list is in no real order. I'm too, ahem, unorganized for such things.
--
1. Pride and Prejudice - Of course, I know you're thinking. Of course the silly romantically inclined girl picked Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. Well, duh. How could I not put the #1 man of my dreams on this list?

--
2. The Mortal Instruments series - Jace and Clary make me wish that me and my boyfriend fought more. Even their fights are romantic. I just love Jace's attitude. Plus, forbidden romance is always the best.
--
3. Anna and the French Kiss - Yeah, I just read this one a couple of days ago, but it already makes my list. Anna and St. Claire are so perfect for each other. And it's set in Paris. Come on people!
--

4. Nevermore - Varen and Isobel just yanked at my heartstrings. You really felt their passion and love for one another. And oh, the waiting! It just about drives me crazy.
--
5. The Notebook - This one shouldn't really count. I've never read the novel. But I just love Allie and Noah too much to not include them. They're so cute and perfect and every girls' fantasy come to life.
--
6. The Vampire Academy series - I haven't finished this one yet, but I'm so completely in love with Dimitri. He just loves Rose so dang much!
--
7. Delirium - I have no words. Really. If you haven't read this one, it's just plain sad. Alex and Lena are so meant to be. And I cried, a lot. So I feel obligated to put up my favorite YA romantic read ever.
--
8. The Time Traveler's Wife - Another one that just tugged at my heartstrings. I loved Henry and Clare's love and how enduring it was. Only real romantics sobbed during this one--I would know.
--
9. The Gemma Doyle series - I know this one isn't strictly a love story. But Kartik and Gemma's love story was so tragic and utterly romantic. I sigh just thinking about it.
--
10. The Hunger Games - Last, but certainly not least. Having only read the first two, I'm already hooked on Peeta. Katniss and his romance is beautiful. (Sorry Team Gale people - I'm still a little torn myself.)

Top Ten Tuesday (1): Top Ten Characters I'd Name My Children After

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. I love making top ten lists, so this meme sounds perfect and fun! Plus this week's title is so interesting.
--
Since it would take me way too long to figure out which order I'd want them in, they're just in a random order.
--
1. Zane (Uglies series) - I loved this name the first I heard it, and I love the originality in it.
--
2. Isobel (Nevermore) - Isobel has a pretty ring to it, and not only do I love the character herself, but the spelling. It looks and sounds more poetic than just Isabelle.
--
3. Dash (Dash & Lily's Book of Dares) - Dash was amazingly sarcastic and bookish, and I love the name; it's original and simple.
--
4. Max (The Book Thief) - Granted, Max isn't that unpopular of a name. But honestly, I loved Max Vandenburg from The Book Thief so much I would totally consider naming my child after him.
--
5. Liesel (The Book Thief) - Okay, again, I just loved Liesel so much. And I've always loved names from other countries. They're really unique.
--
6. Alaska (Looking for Alaska) - Alaska just sounds original. Plus, she's a total book-lover in the book. This will totally be a contender for my first girl. Maybe as a middle name.
--
7. Varen (Nevermore) - I loved Varen (he's totally my current fictional boyfriend) and I loved the name. Again with the originality.
--
8. Henry (The Time Traveler's Wife & The Luxe series) - Maybe I already loved this name, but DeTamble from Time Traveler made me love it even more. Then Shoonmaker from the Luxe stole my heart, and I just have a flat-out obsession with this name now.
--
9. Catcher (The Dead-Tossed Waves) - This name is just so dang original! I love how guy-ish it sounds and it just sounds like a great name. It has a certain ring to it, I guess.
--
10. Tristan (Kissed by an Angel series) - Again, I like the originality, and I loved Tristan in the novel.
--
I know a big majority of these were guy names. I just like guy names in books better, I suppose.
